POVERTY BAY FIRES
1,000 SHEEP DESTROYED Press Association. GISBORNE, To-day. The fires in the Hicks Bay district, which reached to within three miles of the township, have subsided and the settlers have returned to their homes. It is estimated that over 1,000 sheep have been destroyed.
