KERBS AND PITCHERS
CITY COUNCIL MAY CHANGE POLICY NO MORE CONTRACTS? According to report there is likely to be a distinct change in the City Council policy in connection with the buying of kerbs and pitchers. # It will be recoil committee was ser up to inquire into this question, and that the unexpected outcome was the Murray inquiry, though the committee dealt finally with the kerbs and pitchers p >licy nt the time. At that time there were several contracts in existence, which the council decided must be cleared up first. It is understoi d that these >ntracts have now been completed, and th it the City* Council, at its meeting to-morrow evening, will committee concerned to cut all its own kerbs and pitchers, on its own property*. As there has recently siderable amount of discussion in council circles as to the effect of allowing cheap labour to over-ride the market, this decision, if given effect to, will probably b with little pleasure by those interested in the cheap labour.
