ARMY IN EGYPT
NEGOTIATIONS WITH BRITAIN SARWAT PASHA MAY RESIGN By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.45 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The Cairo correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” reports that Sarwat Pasha, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, has communicated to Cabinet the results of his protracted negotiations with Britain, embodying the British Government’s last word. He intends to make a statement in the Chamber about the middle of the week. It is believed that the terms will nut satisfy the Nationalist aspirations regarding the army of occupation, and the Sudan. Sarwat Pasha’s resignation seems inevitable. In the House of Commons yesterday, in reply to a member who asked whether the removal of the British forces from Cairo was being considered, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Sir Austen Chamberlain, said it was impossible to make a statement, on the subject until tlie end of tlie Anglo-Egyptian conversations. No treaty with Egypt would be ratified without first consulting Parliament. — A. and N.Z.-Sun.
