UVfcK £3,UUU DfcßiS PREFERENCE ALLEGED Baden Watson, bankrupt builder, o -Auckland, met his creditors this morn ing, in the office of the official assignee Mr. G. X. Morris.
Owing to a misunderstanding between his solicitor and himself, he had not furnished a statement of his debts, or any explanation of his failure. Bankrupt’s debts amounted to £3,100. His assets totalled approximately £I,OOO. Under examination, bankrupt said that he did not realise his position until he took out a statement in the middle of January. Asked why he made large payments to certain creditors to the exclusion of others, Watson said he hoped to have paid everybody in full. “That’s all nonsense,” said Air. Morris. “A man cannot owe £ 3,000 and not know it.” A committee was set up to assist the assignee in making further inquiries. The meeting was adjourined until Monday.
