Highlander Trophy Won by New Zealand
SHOOTING AT TRENTHAM KING’S BELT TO-DAY Press Association. TRENTHAM, Tuesday. After a gale and heavy rain during the night the morning was cold and bright for the continuation of the National Rifle Association’s meeting. However, shooting conditions were ex- . tremely tricky, and consequently many men who were well up in the aggregate for the King’s Fifty “crashed" badly at the long ranges. A gusty wind with a moving mirage compelled marksmen to correct their sights after each shot with variable success. Mclver (Petone), who had a substanlead, dropped to third place. H. / 1 (Greytown) went back and Piper 5 (Chrischurch) crept up to fifth place ■ from 16th, and Masefield (Blenheim) 1 from 15th to seventh. Great interest was ■ taken in the final range. King (Wa- . nganui) is shooting steadily, but there 1 are a number of competitors close up whose chances are more favoured, especially James. ! The Gordon Highlander trophy was wop easily by the New Zealand team. This service match is open to competition by all the Australian States and New Zealand.
