Auckland Horses For Trentham
ELEVEN GOOD ONES SHOULD HOLD THEIR OWN It is not very often that Ellerslie stables are represented at Trentham, and the meeting next month is' no exception. Not a single horse trained at Ellerslie has been nominated, but for all that Auckland Province will not be entirely disinterested in the results at the Wellington fixture. Among those engaged at Bright Day, Uralla, Mithra, Winnington, Ti Tree. In The Shade, Le Choucas, Paganelli, Dimmer, Subdivision, and Tea Time. Of this lot, the Takanini mentor, J. T. Jamieson, has half a dozen, and he should not retui'n from the Southern trip without a fair share of the stake money on offer. THE BIG EVENT A particularly strong hand is held in the principal handicap contest, the Thompson Handicap, by Jamieson, for ho has Ti Tree, In The Shade, and Le Choucas entered. In addition, he has Mithra and Winnington in the two-year-old handicap events, while Ti Tree is in the open sprint the second day. Dimmer, who showed a return to form at Wanganui, is down to run in the hack sprints. It is interesting to note that Paganelli has been accorded a nomination in the Thompson Handicap also, and
it remains to be seen whether he will run out the mile. This race is hard to win with any ordinary horse, but with a representative with any pretensions to brilliancy this is the race to set him for. A LIKELY ONE At Te Aroha over the last week-end Bright Day ran two solid races, and he reads like a possibility for one of the high weight races at Trentham—events which as a rule are not difficult to capture. On the second day in a similar race Uralla is engaged, and he, too, should be a worthy representative for the province. Subdivision, who was a bit unlucky at Te Aroha on Monday, is also in the hack sprints, and as he has done well at Trentham before he may repeat the performance. The only other Aucklander to come under notice is the sprinter Tea Time, and his efforts against the crack sprinters, if allowed to take his chance, will be watched with interest. Weights for the first day are due to make their appearance on Monday next.
