HAMILTON SITTING (From Our Oven Correspondentj HAMILTON, Friday. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened to-day before Mr. Justice Blair. In his charge to the jury his Honour said there were 12 cases before them, five being of a sexual nature, though not of a serious aspect of that class of offence. Another case concerned assault by a prisoner on a warder. There was a charge against a young man of driving negligently so as to cause the death of another. The case differed somewhat from the usual type which, unfortunately, was becoming very common. Another case concerned alleged breaches of the Bankruptcy Act. and was preferred against a builder and the facts would warrant a true bill be ng found, while yet another case dealt with alleged , bookmaking. | Edward William Slattery Corless was charged with assaulting a prison war- ! der and doing actual bodily harm with | the intent to escape. The case is proceeding. the prisoner conducting hi* ; nwn case and putting the wardear i through, a stiff cross-examination.
