NORTHCOTE-BIRKENHEAD REGATTA

Ideal weather conditions prevailed for the Northcote-Birkenhead annual regatta held last Saturday. There were good fields of starters in most classes and some very keen racing was seen. Sailing down harbour the yachts presented a splendid sight all bunched together. At the finish the timekeeper, Mr. W. A. "Wilkinson, had a strenuous task recording times as boats crowded over the line in rapid succession. Coming “up the straight” toward the finish two small boats somehow capsized, but nobody suffered more than a ducking. By the way, one of th© upended boats was called Continuance, and for a craft with such a name to have been overwhelmed by water is surely significant. An old saying has it that coming events cast their shadows, and is not this election year?
