NEW BAPTIST COLLEGE
OPENING ON WEDNESDAY A public meeting to celebrate the opening of the new Baptist Theological College will be held in the Tabernacle. Queen Street, on Wednesday I evening, when the Rev. Eric Evans, ; president of the Baptist Union, will 1 preside. The college will be dedicated at three o’clock in the afternoon and, prior to the evening service, there will be a “college tea” in the Tabernacle. The new college, which stands on the slopes of Mount Hobson at the corner jof Market and Remuera Roads, was j secured by seven gentlemen who have decided to remain anonymous, and will be handed over ready for occupation and free of debt. Standing in large grounds suitable for laying out in tennis lawns, the house, which is a large two-storeyed building, has accommo- ' dation for 12 or 14 students. I The conditipns which now exist in ' the training of Baptist theological | students are unsatisfactory. The work !at present is carried on at the Taber- ; nacle aid the students are aecommo- | dated at various boarding houses. The | new college marks an important phase 1 in the history of the Baptist Church in Auckland. The system will include all | the resources of the residential univer--1 sity, and the principal, the Rev. J. .T. ' North, lays great stress on the adi vantages of communal life. 1 The assistant tutors will be the Rev. . A. J. Grigg and the Rev. J. Laird.
