OTAGO'S COLLAPSE
AUSTRALIANS’ TOUR grimmett destructive (Special to THE SUN) DUNEDIN, Sunday. With a 1* ad of -So against Otago, the Australian cricketers would have been fully justified in asking the home side to follow on yesterday afternoon, but they very sportingly acceded to the request of the O.C.A. to give the crowd an opportunity of seeing the visitors bat. As it turned out, however, the crowd went away rather disappointed at the dreary batting of the Australian’s two opening batsmen, although Fonsford livened up a lot toward the end. Austral. a was all out in its first innings for 454. Dickinson, who took all seven wickets which fell on Friday, did not secure another wicket on Saturday, the visitors being too careful against tie fast bowler. They were particularly impressed by Dickinson’s ■work. It was the Dunedin man’s finest performance for several seasons’ past. Dickinson has been very disappointing in the past two seasons, his length being most erratic, but on Friday, he was H t”the top of his form, keeping a fine length and swinging the ball most disconcertingly. BLUNT PLAYS "THE ROCK” Otago made a dismal showing with the bat, Grimmett and Blackie going through the side like a packet of crackers. Blunt made a solid half century, and Zimmerman, the North Otago man, whb has been batting well ut Oamaru, contributed a useful 36, but otherwise the innings was a collapse. Backie had the earlier batsmen in trouble right from the start, and ■when Gr mmett came on with his deceptive ulows, the innings became a peut. During the afternoon tea adjournment Mr. Charles Todd presented Giimmet: with a silver-mounted greenstone inkstand on behalf of the Otago Cricket Association and the City of Dunedin, which elaims the bowler as one of its sons. The Mayor, Mr. W. B. Taverner, also spoke.
