HIS FIRST WHISKY
YOUTH’S WILD NIGHT DRUNK IN BORROWED CAR FACES FIVE CHARGES Robert Joseph Charles Draper, aged 17 r had his first drink of whisky on Saturday. He is not likely to forget the consequences. At the Police Court to-day Draper faced the following charges:—Converting a motor-car to his own use. being intoxicated in charge of a car. driving without a licence, committing mischief by damaging a motor-car, and finally, with doing bodily harm to David Thompson while recklessly driving a motor-car. Accused pleaded guilty to all charges but the last one. On it, Senior-Sergeant Cummings asked for a remand, the injured man still being in hospital. Mr. J. J. Sullivan, who appeared for accused, said that he was employed in a place where whisky was stored. On Saturday night he took liquor for the first time, drinking half a bottle of whisky. He then went out and took the car. He was remanded to appear for sentence next Monday.
