Had the Batsmen Thinking

~r rv: -l: y.i with Gee had carried the score from 34 to 121, adding a valuable 87 runs. Without this partnership the students would have been in a bad way. Kelly joined Gee and hit freely until ho was caught in the long field for 28, which he had scored in good time. Kelly was ready to have a shot at anything and his innings was characterised by a fair amount of luck. The fieldsmen were seldom in the vicinity when his lofty shots came to earth. Gee was the next to go. He was caught for 61, the best score of the day. Although his lucky star was shining at the beginning of the innings, he quietened down later and did hot take so many chances. His 61 was a valuable addition to the score. Gee made some splendid shots. Hopkins and Wylie opened for Grafton, but with the total at 14 the latter put his leg in front of a straight one. Turvey joined Hopkins, who was playing good cricket, and the pair carried the total to 39 when Turvey was bowled by Gee. Hopkins was caught and bowled for 33. He made some nice shots all round the wicket. Horspool (19) and Dykes (14) played out time, the total then standing at 78 for four wickets.
