YOUNG MAN DROWNED

DUNEDIN FATALITY DANGEROUS HOLE Press Association. DUNEDIN, Sunday. A drowning accident occurred yesterday, when Charles Cunningham, aged 20 years, whose parents live at Palmerston, lost his life while bathing in the River Leith. Cunningham, with two friends, was bathing in a deep hole close to the George Street Bridge when he was seen to be in difficulties. One of his mates and several young men attempted to rescue him, but in spite of repeated attempts he disappeared in the water. The body was found under a ledge of rock about half-an-hour afterwards by Mr. Walter Hindmarsh, assistant custodian at the Municipal Baths. This hole has previously been the scene of a drowning accident, and on several occasions swimmers have nearly lost their lives at the same spot.
