PIGS FOR EXPORT
MARKETING ASSN. ACTIVITIES (From Our Oxen Correspondent) HAMILTON, Saturday. Twelve thousand dairymen in the Auckland Province are now linked up with the New Zealand Co-op. Pig Marketing Association, according to the association’s monthly report. The report states that about 19,000 pigs, comprising about equal numbers of porkers and baconers, have been handled by the association, and a total of £22,000 has been advanced to suppliers, representing 3d a lb. on porkers, 2d on baconers and Id on choppers. A final payment of lad a lb. will be mads on choppers in the first pool in the course of a few days, making a total pay-out of 2£d a lb. A large number of porkers and baconers are on consignment, and are just arriving on the London market. It is hoped shortly to pay out a further Id a lb. as a first bonus on all porkers and baconers in the first pool. report further states that when the association first started it was not in a position to sell for forward delivery, but now that the association was known to hold large stocks of frozen carcases buyers in New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain were coming forward freely. “After much discussion,” continues the report, “the Government subsidy has been finally settled in the form of a rebate of £d a lb. on the freight of all dressed carcases between 601 b. and 1801 b., weighed with heads on, exported to the United Kingdom. While the method of giving the subsidy is not ideal, it is considered far more satisfactory than the proposal of giving 5s for each pig passed over the scales.” MOM CW rn . train
