The ranges were in a sodden condition as a result of hevay rain throughout the night, but it stopped at nine o’clock this morning, when the men squadded preparatory to the Wellington Match, consequently in the service rifle tests there will be no results till later in the afternoon. The leading ten optional aggregate scores in Belt matches are as follow:; — H. Hunt (Suburbs), 434; H. Feast (Grevtown), 432; W. West (Renwick), 432; F. Ching (Karori), 431; J. Paterson (Wanganui), 431; E. King (Wanganui), 429; C; Nix (Featherston), 429; A. O’Donnell (Petone), 428; F. James (Napier), 428; L. Benton, (Featherston), 427. The positions of the leading 10 teams competing in the rifle club champion team match, open to teams of five from any defence club in New Zealand, is as follow (all scores in belt match to count except final 10 shots): Petone No. 1, 1,109; Featherston, I, Wanganui A, 1,091; Suburbs No. 1, 1,087; Christchurch No. 1, 1*085; Linton A, 1,083; Karori No. 1, 1,079; Greytown, 1,076; Petone No. 2, 1,063: Ashburton, 1,061. ' Last year’s match was won by Petone No. 1 with an aggregate of 2,310, Ashburton being next with 2,294. HIGHLANDERS’ TROPHY The following New Zealand team lias been chosen to compete for the Gordon Highlanders trophy against, the Australians :• —H. Marshall (Karori, captain), H. Simmonds (Paeroa), F. Soler (Wanganui), F. Jeune (Gisborne), F. James (Napier), R. Hester (Suburbs), E. Ballinger (Petone), F. Hood (Featherston), H. Hunt (Suburbs). It is now raining. Shooting conditions are unpleasant and sighting difficult.
