MANY GOOD OFFERS
AIRMANS REWARD £2,000 FROM GOVERNMENT SYDNEY, Friday. Mr. Hinkler is expected to fly to Melbourne, via Canberra. Negotiations are proceeding for a visit to Sydney, en route to Melbourne. In an interview prior to his departure from Darwin, the airman said he might take up commercial flying in Australia if an opening occurred. Sydney newspapers have opened subscription lists toward a fund for the recognition of Mr. Hinkler’s achievement. It is reported that a theatrical firm has offered the airman, £IO,OOO for his services for six months. He has also received other offers.
A telegram from Canberra states that the Prime Minister, Mr. S. M. Bruce, announced in Parliament, amid applause from all parties, that the Government had decided to invite Mr. Hinkler to visit Canberra and there to present him with a cheque for £2,000, as well as a memento of his great flight. Mr. Bruce paid a glowing tribute to the airman for his achievement. This the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. M. Charlton, fully endorsed. Among the congratulatory messages received by Hinkler was one from the King.—A. and N.Z.
