No Padded Carriage Conveys Loch Moigh

OWNER MITCHELL SPEAKS OUT MISLEADING THE PUBLIC Discussing affairs in the trotting world generally with “Abaydos” at Alexandra Park during the week, Mr. J. A. Mitchell, owner of Loch Moigh and Padlock, said while recognising the good work of the Press in assisting the sport, he considered it was not in the public interest to publish misleading statements such as had recently appeared in a well-known weekly journal concerning his pacer Loch Moigh. The bone of contention, the writer learned, was an announcement made that the pacer Loch Moig was to be honoured when travelling to Auckland with a specially-fitted railway conveyance. This Mr. Mitchell contended was misleading to the public, and he wished to give the statement an emphatic denial. There was no padded box prepared for Loch Moigh, 1 - • • ; ' ' 1

and while admitting that the horse was a bad traveller, his owner said there was no occasion to go to such a limit in order to convey the son of Nelson Derby to the meetings. “I take strong exception,” said the Manawatu sportsman, “to such exaggerated and nonsensical ideas being broadcast, as it is apt to give the public a false impression regarding the capabilities of my horse. Anyone,” he continued, “believing such a thing would naturally jump to the conclusion that I had an out and out champion to warrant such preparation and atention, and would be misled thereby.” “Abaydos” suggested that Loch Moigh was worthy of such extravagance if it was deemed necessary, but Mr. Mitchell remarked, “He is now at the end of his tether as the finish of the Papakura Handicap on Saturday last demonstrated.” Concluding, the Palmerston North owner, who races exclusively for the sport, said he would appreciate The Sun placing these facts before the public.
