- LONG liberty ended VV ill i a rr> ScHoles, aged 38, escaped from lawful custody last His period of unlawful liberty ended yesterday. CCHOLES was charged at the Police & Court to-day with escaping from custody. Caief-Detective Hammond said that accused escaped from a train while being transferred from Wellington to Mount Eden prison. He was an habitual criminal, and many more charges would be preferred against him. On Mr. J. J- Sullivan’s behalf, an application was mad® for bail. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt: I won't give bail to a man who should be serving a sentence. Scholes was remanded to appear nest Thursday.
