GILDING THE LILY
J)Q you want to make up? Well, do not try to make up like an actress. An actress especially if you are dining with a bachelor, you may be seen in a makes up for distance. You may be very closely examined and, very crude light. Men do not think of lights and shades and the softening effects of pale rose-coloured silk. If you want to make up, first rinse your face with milk, and then wash it off with rose-water. Then put on the least touch of your favourite face cream. You can use vanishing cream if you like, or I know of a beautiful lotion which is especially made for “before powdering.” Wipe that off and then powder your face. Powder it liberally, including neck, forehead and behind your ears. Then take a piece of spotlessly clean chamois leather and wipe it off. You can then add your touch of rouge. Brush every trace of powder out of your brows and eyelashes. Touch eyebrows with a mere suspicion of brilliantine. Use your lipstick, but remember the bachelor and his unshaded lights and don’t overdo your make-up!
