Remaining Young
Points From A Woman Doctor's Advice
WHEN we say that we desire youth we mean that we desire health and agility of mind and body. Age is an infirmity. When we feel old we feel that there is nothingmore that we can do ; that we are of no use either to ourselves or to anybody else. But it is possible to rejuvenate the body and the mind.
AUK real youth is not determined by the age of the body. The causes of old age are alcohol in excess, smoking in excess, especially if inhaling is indulged in; surroundings that do not cheer and stimulate us; lack of attention to bodily health; wearing emotions, particularly the emotions of anger, worry, anxiety and fear. Face massage is a good thing, but it is not necessary to spend extravagant sums on it. Every woman can massage her own face, and there is no need nowadays for any woman to have a bad complexion. Sunlight is necessary to all health. Artificial sunlight is doing wonderful things for humanity, and we should all take advantage of this cure. Allied to the precisely right form of electrical treatment for the individual, it has an almdst miraculous effect. It is possible to see women “grow young as you look at them.” We should all of us determine to give ourselves annually a birthday, present of a thorough overhaul by a medical man or woman. Thus if we can make sure that if any serious or dangerous disease threatens us it can be treated in the early stages. * • • Most women know that a loss of
temper means a headache. "Worry, which we say we cannot help, is very bad for us. We can help it, and it is beneficial to us to help it. Self-control means rejuvenation of the body. * * * Anxiety means lack of faith. Whatever our individual faith may be, surely we all believe in something mightier than ourselves—a Power infinitely above us, and if we clo anxiety is just a lack of faith. Fear is one of the most destructive elements in life. Fear takes away self-respect, health, and looks. *> * * Relaxation is of enormous importance. We should learn how to relax. Five minutes’ genuine relaxation is worth five hours’ good sleep. Another important aid to youth is the daily bath. To banish depression, give yourself the chance of laughter. Even by smiling you may stimulate parts of your brain, and so of the nervous system, in a manner that makes you able to resist depression. • * c Sympathy and understanding will take out, one by one, the wrinkles that have been made by fear and anxiety, selfishness and worry. Buying a new hat often does a woman as much good as taking a dose of medicine three times a day. A woman should do all that she can to add to the beauty of the home and the people in it. THE VERY LAST WORD He: You did! She: I did not! He: You did! She: I didn't! He: One of us is a very clever lia_r, and only one thing prevents me from saying which of us it is. She: Modesty, I presume!
