TOURNEY AT TIMARU BUTTERS WINS CUP Press Association. TIMARU. Friday. The New Zealand professional golf tournament was concluded here to-day in bright weather and before a large attendance of the public. Play was of an exceptionally high order. The Canterbury championship was contested by 14 players and provided a very close and exciting finish. R. C. Butters (Miramar) won the cup by a magnificent 15-foot putt which gave him the victory over A. J. Shaw (Napier) by a stroke. Both played brilliant golf throughout the whole of the last round. The third stroke handicap was won by A. J. Shaw (Napier) and the fourth stroke handicap by G. B. Forrest (Timaru). The Dunlop Rubber Company’s special prize for the lowest net aggregate in to-day’s play was won by A. J. Shaw. G. B. Forrest won the eclectic prize. The detailed results are as follows: South Canterbury Championship (aggregate scores).—R. C. Butters (Miramar i, first day 143, second day 150, total 293; A. J. Shaw (Napier), 154 and 140, 294; G. B. Forrest (Timaru), 153 and 143, 296; J. A Clements (Christchurch), 148 and 151, 299; J. R. Galloway (Palmerston North), 149 and 152, 301: J. Forrest (Dunedin), 152 and 154, 306. Third Stroke Handicap.—A. J. Shaw, 70; H. MacDcugall (Invercargill), 71; G. B. Forrest and J. Lambie (Wellington), each 74; J. A. Clements, 75; J. Forrest, 76. Fourth Stroke Handicap.—G. B.
