MACARTHY TRUST
GRANT REFUSED METHODIST ATTITUDE Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Appreciation of the stand taken up at last year’s Methodist Conference, when it was decided not to accept any further grants for charitable purposes from the T. G. Macarthy Trust, was expressed at this morning’s session of the conference by Mr. H. P. Mourant, of Wellington. Mr. Mourant’s remarks were made when the report of the Wellington Methodist Charitable and Educational Endowments Trust was submitted to the conference. He congratulated the Trust Board on not having accepted any money from the Macarthy Trust, in accordance with the attitude of the conference last year. Mr. Mourant said he was pleased to see that the Presbyterian Assembly had taken a similar stand. The report of the Endowments Trust Board said: “Owing to the decision of the 1927 conference, no grant has been received this year from the governors of the T. G. Macarthy estate, the application having been withdrawn. Our members and friends are looked to to make up the loss in our income, which will be sorely felt, unless givers see to it that we are not placed in this unhappy position.” The report was adopted. ____
