MOTH AIRPLANE FOR AUCKLAND

COMPANY TO BE FORMED The arrival of a Moth airplane in Auckland to-day by the Mataroa marks an important step in the establishment of commercial flying in New Zealand. The machine, which is the regular standardised model sold in England to-day for about £ 650, was purchased by Mr. Douglas Mill, of Remuera, during his recent visit to England, on behalf of a private company in Auckland. In all probability, the plane will be unpacked and assembled immediately, and will be on view for public inspection until the registration of a company which Mr. Mill is forming to utilise the machine for photographic purposes and commercial flying. With a maximum load of approximately 14cwt, which includes two people, the Moth has an approximate speed of 100 m.p.h. and with its 30-80 h.p. air-cooled engine and its general compactness, it will be able to take off within a hundred yards and land within a 130yds run. It is anticipated that should business warrant it, more Moths and perhaps larger machines will be purchased by th© company, which will have its headquarters and landing ground in the vicinity of Auckland.

(By special arrangement Reuter’s World Service, in addition to other special sources’ of information, is used in the compilation of the overseas intelligence Dublished in this issue, and all r-onts therein in Australia and New Zealand are reserved.)
