Guarded Tomb Six Thousand Years

Royal Splendour and Human Sacrifices By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Received 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Thursday, jEVIDENCE of human sacrifices on a lavish scale was found in two more royal tombs discovered at Ur of the Chaldees, and dating from the fourth millennium before Christ. The builders were apparently familiar with the construction of arches which the western world did not adopt until 3,000 years later. Against the foot of the king’s grave were 11 bodies of women wearing rich head-dresses covered with gold and lapis carnelian Two ranks of soldiers with copper helmets still on their crushed skulls guarded the entrances. Queen Shubad’s tomb was the richest yet found. She had ten gold finger rings and a cloak entirely covered with beads and fastened at the neck with big gold pins to which were attached lapis cylinder seals. Alongside her body was a pair of silver cockleshells, containing toilet paints, and a set of IS fluted tumblers.—Sun
