Apple Water This easily-prepared drink stands first among cooling summer beverages which help to beautify the skin, and it ! lias one great advantage—it will not add a fraction of an ounce to one’s , j weight, no matter how great a quan- i tity is taken. To make it. choose good juicy apples, wash, but do not peel them, and cut into slices a quarter of an inch thick. Place in a large jug. ; and add sugar if desired. Pour over the c watei j allowing half a pint to < very large j apple, and cover the jug. Leave it t ! stand till cold, then strain through a fine sieve, and serv with a slice of ' lemon floating in eoeh tumbler. wash an ounce of pearl barley and put it into a quart of water with the thinly-peeled rind of a lemon. Simmer slowly for an hour, adding when half boiled a lump of sugar. If too thick add another quarter pint of water while t boils.
