Tillyard, of Nelson, left by the Ulimaroa to-day for Sydney in company with her husband, who has been appointed Chief Commonwealth Entomologist. Airs. Tillyard will return to Nelson in April, but expects to take up her residence in Canberra about October. * * * Mrs. W. N. Maw, of Jubbulpore, India, has been spending several months in Auckland. Part of the time was spent with her uncle, the Hon. George Townshend, at Takapuna, and she was also the guest of Airs. AlcGarry, Gillies Avenue, Epsom. Aliss C. Agar, Aliss L. Isles.and Miss J. Alatheson, of Christchurch; Mrs. and Miss Anderson, of Sydney; Air. and Mrs. C. Rickard, of Wellington; Aliss D. Smith and Miss Bailey, of Pahiatua, are among the guests at the Grand Hotel. * * * Aliss Helen Smyth, who has spent nearly a year in New Zealand, most of the time in Hamilton, will return shortly to her home in San Francisco. This week Aliss Smyth spent a few days in Te Aroha, and will arrive in Auckland on Saturday, sailing for America by the Vancouver boat. To remove peach-stains, rub glycerine into the spots two or three days before laundering. To dispel bad breath, buy a small piece of orris-root from the chemist and chew a grating oft' the root, which is, incidentally, very hard. | MEDICAL CONFERENCE ; ROUND OF ENTERTAINMENTS (From Our Own Correspondent) HAAIILTON, To-day. The wives and daughters of the "delegates to the conference of the New Zealand Aledical Association are being hospitably entertained by Hamilton residents. Alembers of the party were driven to Cambridge yesterday and were later entertained at morning tea by Alesdames E. E. Roberts, J. Ritchie and H. C. Todd at the home of Airs. Roberts. In the afternoon the doctors and their wives were given tea in the High School grounds by Mesdames T. C. Fraser and A. G. Waddell. The girls of the school gave a display of physical drill and folk dancing, and an exhibition of lawn tennis was given by Dr. J. T. Laurenson and Airs. A. Sims. While the doctors were attending the annual dinner of the Aledical Association last evening their wives and daughters were entertained by the Waikato Lyceum Club in the club rooms. After the civic reception to the delegates in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening an “A* Home” was held by Dr. and Airs. G. W. Gower in the High School Assembly Hall, which was arranged as a large drawing-room, with small tables and couches round the sides. A pretty colour scheme of gold and blue was arranged, greenery and bowls of hydrangeas and zinnias creating a charming effect. The walls were draped with brocaded hangings to tone with the floral decorations. After being entertained at morning tea by the Waikato Lyceum Club on Wednesday the visitors were driven to various points of interest, and in the afternoon a garden party was held at the home of Dr. and Airs. A. Joseph, Ohaupo Road. “AT HOME” PONSONBY SWIMMING CLUB The Point Erin Tea Kiosk presented a very gay appearance on Wednesday evening, when, despite the sultry weather, a large number, of guests attended the Ponsonby Swimming Club’s “At Home” and Dansant. Blue and primrose streamers, and gay flags decorated the dance room and rose-coloured paper flowers shaded the lights. Streamers and balloons were among the novelties introduced during the evening and prizes were provided for Alonte Carlo dances. Lind’s orchestra supplied the dance music. CHILDREN'S BIRTHDAY PARTY' A very bright party was given by Mr. and Mrs. Shaw at their home in Northcote on Tuesday afternoon, to celebrate the sixth birthday of little Douglas Shaw. All Douglas’s playmates came to the party, and played games and competitions and generally spent a very enjoyable time. Paper caps and other novelties amused the young guests, who enthusiastically demolished the “party tea" that was set in the gaily-decorated dining-room. BIRTHDAY PARTY' A coming-of-age party was given at Nairn's tea rooms in Karangahape Road last evening, in honour of Mr. Harold SmytliemanAwhose 21st birthday it was. About 90 guests were received and were entertained with dancing during the evening to music provided by an excellent orchestra. The rooms were effectively decorated with tiger lilies and palms and a maze of streamers and gay balloons in tones of pink and mauve. A large birthday cake. on which danced 21 kewpies occupied the centre of the table.
