NOTES A listener in Remuera reports his reception of two stations on about 400 metres at 10.20 p.m. yesterday. Both operators were talking in a foreign language. It is believed these were two of the Norwegian whaling boats now at Stewart Island, which are all installed with radio transmitting apparatus. This same listener has heard 73 short wave stations, 11 of which are outside Australasia, all on a two valves. This can be recognised as a remarkable achievement which few in New Zealand can equal. Shortly after 1.30 this morning 2FC was heard on a special test transmission. This was a relay of the famous London station 2LO. The first ten minutes’ relay was not a success, and the station switched over to the Ambassador’s ballroom. At 1.50 a band item, “Rule Britannia,” came through with good strength. This was followed by a dance number and a male quartet. The test ended at 2 a.m. The band item and the singing came through plaintly, but the announcer’s voice was indistinct. A similar test is to be held to-morrow morning at the same time. Through the short wave station, 2ME, trails were broadcast to America*
