Monorial In Bermuda To Poet Thomas Moore
HP HE memory Of Thomas Moore is to be honoured in Bermuda by the erection of a fountain. The design comprises a panel of granite surmounted by an heroic bust in green bronze of Moore, and teas selected by a jury of three historical societies in Bermuda. Mrs. Frances Gloria Bennett is the sculptor. Moore 'was exiled to Bermuda 123
years ago on account of the unwortliin css of another . and the island records stories, some of them much embellished, of his trials , genius and misfortunes. ... It is a leisurely existence on the island, and with time to gossip it is but ■,natural that every islander should know all about Tom. Though many authors have found fanciful material in the Bermudas for their ivritings the intensity of the affectio?i for Moore exhibited by Bermudans is surprising. There is the calabash tree beneath which he wrote and dreamed; now almost a shrine for admirers of the poet. —T.W.
