DEATH OF AN INFANT
THE “META” TABLET CASE VERDICT OF NATURAL CAUSES Press Association. HAWERA. To-day. At the inquest held yesterday concerning the death of the infant All** Bremner. who died at YVaverlev on January 16 after being taken from a train suffering from supposed poiaoring through eating a “Meta” tablet, Mr. J. S. Barton. S.M.. returned a verdict of death from natural causes. He found that the predisposing factors were digestive trouble and teething On these conditions there supervened a disturbance t reated by the eating of a “Meta” tablet and the necessary treatment after. The coroner was satisfied that death was not caused by the tablet in the present case. “Tablets,” lie said, "which contain the poison meta-ldehyde, easily have fatal effects on children who swallow* them. Such tablets, and similar compounds, should be sold only in containers bearing a printed statement of the toxic ingredients cor - tained, and of the household antidote for such poisons.”
