Franklin Show
HIGH QUALITY STOCK STRONG DAIRY SECTION Large entries of high quality stock in practically every section favoured the 43rd annual fixture of the Franklin A. and P. Association, which opened at Pukekohe this morning. Entries in many sections constituted'a record, and the fixture generally promises to be an outstanding success. From the point of view of the man on the land, the display of dairy cattle was a feature of the show, splendid types of animals coming forward from all parts of the northern Waikato, while several well-known breeders from as far north as Helensville have stock entered. Jerseys made the strongest section, approximately 121 pedigree animals coming forward, compared with Friesians—which were next in order—64 entries, Shorthorns 57, and Ayrsliires 48. Though limited to a small number of breeders, the sheep were mostly true to type, and many were fit to hold their own at any fixture in the province. Considering’ the number of pigs in the district, this section was disappointing, and entries were confined to about a dozen breeders. Entries in the horse classes numbered over 400 and the section was undoubtedlv the strongest in the show. The quality of the animals generally was high and the hunters’ classes scheduled for to-morrow should equal that shown at any show in < the Dominion. Awards made to-day in ' the principal sections are as follow:~ PEDIGREE MILKING SHORTHORNS Cow, over 4 years (5): G. D. Hall’s Riverdale Nectarine 11., 1 and champion; wood Bros.
