Another j party took two swordfish and a number •of large hapuka, weighing up to 701 b. Mr. and Mrs. Salisbury, of Chicago, ‘ were trolling for bait off Cape Brett I recently, with light rods. Mr. Salis- ; bury had just hooked a kahawai, when he felt a tremendous tug, and a huge black marlin leaped clear of the water, smashed the tackle and escaped. Later, Mr. Salisbury caught a 3381 b hammerhead shark. On the Mercury Bay fishing grounds Mr. V. J. Anderson Brown, of Aucki land, took a brown shark of 2091 b, and j Mr. Cecil Herdson, of Avondale, a j reremai shark, weighing 1001 b. Mr. G. White, a local fisherman, fishing cit Leigh, took a hammerhead shark, weighing 5001 b. Although several swordfish were seen, none was ! hooked.
