STILL SMOULDERING
TE AROHA BUSH FIRE DANGER NOT PASSED (From Our Own Correspondent) TE AROHA, To-day. The vast bush and fern fire which burned here throughout yesterday afternoon and night has settled down to burn itself out in the heavy native bush ol! the ranges to the south of the town, and extending from right on the outskirts of the borough to the Wairongomai goldfields area. For some miles the ranges are smoking still, and provide a wondf.li i sight at night as they glow and flame. The bush is still being devastated higher up on the ranges and the damage cannot be estimated as, unless heavy rain comes soon, further large areas must succumb in the wake of the fires. The danger can be realised when it is stated that late last evening, when the gale blew up from the east, a fire broke out again high up above the Bald Spur, where the-, fire occurred nearly a fortnight ago. The damage to fencing is very great and will entail weeks and weeks of ceaseless work on the p .p perties swept.
