DOMESTIC MISHAPS

There are many little mishaps which cause much worry to a housewife brit which can very easily be put right if she knows what to do. Scratched Linoleum Scratches on linoleum may be gently rubbed with a piece of typewriting eraser. In the case of printed oilcloth, brisk rubbing with a cloth soaked in olive oil will go a long way towards removing the mark. Burnt Plates Burnt marks on plates can be treated ; successfully with a cork and a little : damp salt. Rust spots on metal may j bo removed if they are rubbed with a | cork that has been dipped in paraffin. ; A cork moistened with paraffin is also j splendid for removing marks from I hearth tiles. Heat Marks on Polished Wood White marks on a polished surface j caused by hot dishes, can be removed ! by applying a little olive oil and salt ! over the stains. This should be left i for some time, then wiped away and j polished. The marks will then have | disappeared. To Cleanse a Sponge Squeeze the juice of a lemon into it j and leave 24 hours. Then rinse in sev- 1 eral waters.
