VEGETABLES SCARCE TOFUA BRINGS BANANAS As a result of the dry weather vegetables continue to be in short supply at the City Markets. Potatoes are the only line offering in fair quantities. Large supplies of apples are coming forward. The demand is only fair and prices are low. Good dessert peaches and plums are selling well. Bon Cretien pears are in demand at the moment and values have eased. Hothouse grapes were bought at last; weeks rates. The Tofua arrived last evening with a shipment of bananas from the Islands and supplies will be distributed to-day. Good repacks are scarce. American oranges are selling slowly. Supplies of tomatoes have decreased. There is no demand for inferior grades. Hen and duck eggs have eased from last week’s values. There are fair supplies and the demand is poor.
