VEGETABLES SCARCE TOFUA BRINGS BANANAS As a result of the dry weather vegetables continue to be in short supply at the City Markets. Potatoes are the only line offering in fair quantities. Large supplies of apples are coming forward. The demand is only fair and prices are low. Good dessert peaches and plums are selling well. Bon Cretien pears are in demand at the moment and values have eased. Hothouse grapes were bought at last; weeks rates. The Tofua arrived last evening with a shipment of bananas from the Islands and supplies will be distributed to-day. Good repacks are scarce. American oranges are selling slowly. Supplies of tomatoes have decreased. There is no demand for inferior grades. Hen and duck eggs have eased from last week’s values. There are fair supplies and the demand is poor. FRUIT Apples: Gravenstein, choice, coloured, 4s 6d to 7s; Gravenstein, green, 2s to 4s; cookers, 2s 6d to 4s 6d. Pears: Bon Cretien, 6s to 8s; No. 2’s, 4s 6d to 6s. + Tomatoes: No. I s, 3s to 4s 9d; No. 2’s, Is 6d to 2s 6d. Plums: Prunes, 4s 9d to 5s 6d; Monarch, 6s to Ss; damsons, 8s 6d to 9s 6d; Ponds 5s to 6s. Peaches: Best coloured, 10s to 12s; others, 6s 6d to 9s. Lemons: 18s to 255; Californian, double cases, 60s to 625. Grapes: Hothouse, lOd to Is 4d. Oranges: American" 26s to 365. Bananas: Repacks, 23s to 265; No. 2’s, 12s to 15s. Cape Gooseberries: 5Jd to 63d lb. Passion Fruit: 7s 6d to 12s 6d a case. FIELD PRODUCE Potatoes: Is to 5s a bag; 6s to iOs 6d cwt. Onions: 11s to 12s 6d cwt. Kumeras: 3d to 4d lb. Cabbage: 3s to 10s sack. Pumpkins: 7s to 14s cwt. Green Peas: Ss 3d to 13s bag. Beans: 9s to 14s bag. Lettuce: 3s to 14s case. Cucumbers: 6d to 2s dozen. Vegetable Marrows: 4s to 12s dozen. Water Melons: 4d to 3s each. Rock Melons: 6d to Is 6d each. Cabbage: On benches, 4s to 6s 6d dozen. Celery: Is 6d to 3s bundle. Rhubarb: Is 6d to 2s 6d dozen. Spinach: Is to Is 6d dozen. Pumpkins: On benches, 3d to 2s each. Spring Onions: Is to Is 9d bundle. Radish: 6d dozen. Carrots, Parsnips, Beet and Turnips: Is to 2s dozen. DAIRY PRODUCE Hen eggs: Is 8d to Is 9d dozen.
