FORSAKEN PRINCIPLE EXECUTIVE WILL INQUIRE Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. At the annual meeting of the South Island Bands’ Association, the question of professionalism at contests was raised in a letter from Mr. R. J. Estall, who tendered his resignation as trustee.

His reason as stated was that the association was drifting away from the principle and objects for which it was formed, namely, the fostering of competition among amateur bands. The secretary: It is not the fault of the association that we are drifting toward professionalism. It is the fault of the bands themselves. It was stated that at the Dunedin contest some bands played as many as four professionals. It was agreed that the whole matter be referred to the incoming executive for consideration. Mr. Estall later withdrew his resignation.

The balance sheet showed a credit bal ance of £l3B 11s.

The election of officers resulted: President, Dr. H. T. J. Thacker; treasurer, Mr. H. Sweney; secretary, Mr. T. F. Hall; trustee, Mr. R. J. Estall; committee, Messrs. W. Larcombe, E. Billcliff, J. McCullough, W. D. Murray, W. Newton, D. Oakes, J. D. Hunter, A. Wood, A. G. Homer and R. B. Hean.

FURTHER RESULTS Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The Dominion band contest was continued to-day. The E flat bass solo and the trombone solo were heard in the morning, and the visit! Tg bandsmen were given a civic reception by the Mayor, Mr. J. K. Archer, in the afternoon.. This was followed by the drum solo section, and in the evening the quartettes and the B grade first test selection were judged. Results are as follow:

Owing to the late hour of concluding the evening performances no comments were made by the judge. The aggregate points will be announced when the second test is concluded to-morrow evening.
