EMPIRE
TWO FINE FILMS What gives promise of being one of the most unusual and appealing film productions of the year is scheduled for showing at the Empire Theatre to-night, in “Alias the Deacon,” the Universal picture starring Jean Hersholt.
Directed by Edward Sloman, noted for his human and intensely real pictures, “Alias the Deacon” tells a simple story of a picturesque character. The story proved a tremendous success in its long stage presentation in almost every city in America, and with Jean ITersholt,
one of the most celebrated actors on the screen, in the rich role of the gambler who covers his real occupation under the benign exterior of a deacon, a very worthwhile picture should be the result. In addition to the character star, the cast of the picture includes Ralph Graves. June Marlowe, Myrtle Stedman, Lincoln Plummer, Ned Sparks, Maurice Murphy, Tom Kennedy and others.
“The Love Thrill,” starring Laura La Plante, will also be presented this evening.
