NATIONAL AND LYRIC
“WHITE FLANNELS” “White Flannels,” starring Jason Robards, is the chief attraction at the National and Lyric Theatres this week. Robards is cast as the heroic young coal-miner who becomes the footbal; idol of the college, and leads the team to victory in one of the hardest battles ever filmed for a screen production. It arouses audiences to a high pitch of enthusiasm. Featured with Dresser and Robards are Virginia Browne Faire, Richmond Warner, George Nichols and Brooks Benedict. Lloyd Bacon has scored one of his biggest successes in his direction of the play. A big coal mine disaster and a college football game are the outstanding spectacular features. “Hats Off,” a typical Hal Roach fur film, will be shown with the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer picture “The Thirteenth Hour.” Stan Laurel and Olivei Hardy are featured in the roles of twc bright young men who having failed al everything else decide to become washing machine salesmen. They carry a “sample” machine with them, anc what happens to it, to them, and to the unfortunate people with whom they come in contact, forms material for one of the breeziest comedies ever made.
