EYE EXPERTS CONFER

LEGISLATIVE PROJECTS MAYOR’S APPROVAL Welcoming the delegates to the seventh annual conference of the Institute of Optometrists this morning, the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. Baildon. referred to the hoped-for legislation that had been designed to protect the profession. Eye specialists required all the protection that had been granted to members of the dental and pharmaceutical professions. Mr. Baildon concluded by advising delegates not to neglect the social side of the conference. A welcome on behalf of the Auckland Association of Optometrists was given by Mr. Charles Martyn, vice-president. Co-operation between the eye specialist and his patient was the subject taken by Mr. Gilberd in his presidential address. Mr. Gilberd said that the first consideration of an optician was, not monetary profit, but service in the preservation of human eyesight. Local centre reports were presented by Mr. H. White, Otago and Southland: Mr. E. H. Sargent, Canterbury: the president, Wellington; Mr. G. E. Read, junr.. Auckland. Reference to the examiner’s report and the excellent record of 73 per cent, of passes was made Li' the president.
