The Papawai rifle meeting opened this morning, in good conditions, with the sun shining with a steady light, and an easterly breeze which caused no inconvenience. The president, Mr. J. F. Thompson, welcomed the Australian teams. Captain Ft. W. Fteseigh, acknowledging the welcome to the Australians, expressed himself as very pleased with the conditions and the range. Results: Service Match. —F. C. Hamilton (Wanganui), 31, £2 10s; Captain Simmonds (Paeroa). £2 10s; P. M. Rummer (Tewharau), J. C. Armstong and E. W. Wilesmith (both N.S.W.), each £l.
