CHEAPER ELECTRIC POWER
WAITEMATA BOARD MEETING THIS MORNING Commenting on the engineer’s report to the Waitemata Electric-Power Board this morning, the chairman, Mr. J. W. Hayden, expressed pleasure that th© 56 connections for the past month included 18 stores, 20 water heaters and 10 motors. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee it was agreed that every endeavour be made to wipe off the Devonport £40,000 electricity loan at maturity in August, 1936, and thai the sum of £ 3,000 be paid annually for eight years to the Public Trustee, sinking fund commissioner for the above loan, in addition to the 1 per cent, sink-* ing fund already established and accumulated in that office.
The board’s policy in regard to future loans was established with a decision that when the present loan moneys should be expended further reticulation extensions and capital expenditure D* met by the raising of another loan, and as a result of the adoption of that policy the present lighting charge* be reduced from 8d to 7d gross from April 1, 1928.
It was proposed that owners of houses intermittently occupied should guarantee a payment of £2 annually, which deposit would be refunded in th*ev’ent of £3 worth of power being used during the year. In one month, at a seaside settlement, 76 applications for power to be cut off were received. .Some houses were let several times during the holiday season, and the re--1 sultant cost to the board was a heav loss. It was decided to adopt the proposal.
