AWAKENED BY FLAMES

ESCAPE AT PANMURE The crash of falling timber awoke the occupants of a house on Panmure Road at 3.30 yesterday morning, to find the building in flames. They were only able to escape with what they were wearing. The Otahuhu Fire Brigade was called, and was on the scene in a few minutes; but without a water supply it was unable to do anything with the main building. Efforts were concentrated on the outbuildings, and with the help of the first-aid outfit, carried on the engine, comprising 60 gallons of water, the firemen were able to revent the flames from spreading. A detached shop on the front of the section escaped injury. The house was owned and occupied by* Mr. Dan Ryan, butcher, of Panmure Road, and Mr. and Mrs. Ryan were the only' occupants of the house at til© time of the outbreak.
