FIRE ON LINER
SLIGHT DAMAGE DONE CARGO OF PETROL CARRIED Press Association. DUNEDIN, Friday. Fire broke out in No. 2 hold of the Ellerman liner City of Bath after she left Dunedin yesterday for Launceston. Part of the cargo was 30,000 cases of petrol. A hatch was opened and smoke was seen coming from cases of leaf tobacco. The tire was quickly extinguished, with slight damage, but the vessel has berthed at Port Chalmers, where a full investigation will be made, to ensure safety.
