Watered Milk. —Morgan Cox. charged at the Police Court to-day with selling milk containing water, was fined £5. Finds Not Keeps. —Louis Cohen, who sold a motor tyre found by him on a road was fined £ 5 at the Police Court to-day. Old Man Gaoled. —Francis Burk* aged 65, charged at the Police Court to-day with being idle and disorderly, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. .(fl Magistrate Welcomed. —The new magistrate, Mr. S. L. Patterson, -was warmly congratulated upon occupying the Bench for the first time at Opotiki yesterday. Probation Broken. —Admitting that he had broken the terms of his release on probation, Ernest Hodge, aged 33, was charged at the Police Conrt today. He was remanded to appear next week for sentence. Idle and Disorderly.— Agnes Kennedy. aged 42, charged at the Police Court to-day with being idle and disorderly, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence any time within 12 months. , Relieving Teacher. —ln response to the representations made by the XVaihi Schools Committee the Auckland Education Board has appointed a relieving teacher. Miss E. G. Sutton, to the Waihi Beach School* Injuries From Explosion. —lt was found necessary, yesterday, to perform another operation on the lad, Leslie Wilfred Murphy, who was seriously injured, recently, in an explosion in the science room of the Pahiatua District High School. Mill Destroyed.—A bush fire near the Raglan Sawmilling Company’s mill at Hutiwai, got out of control yesterday, and destroyed the mill, ‘wo houses and a quantity of sawn timber. The total damage is estimated at £7OO. Methodist Conference. —At the 16th annual conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, being held in Christchurch, Mr. J. W. Shackelford (Auckland) was elected vice-president, for 1928, and the Rev. J. F. Goldie, one of the Solomon Islands missionaries, president for 1929. Young Man Injured. —While working with a block and tackle in the motor garage of Messrs. Holah and Hedlev, Te Kuiti, a young man named Jack Lecky, was struck a severe blow on the head by a piece of wood. He was rendered unconscious and was conveyed to the hospital. He is now reported to be progressing satisfactorily. Fire in Factory. —A small Are in the National Brush Company’s factory. Great South Road, about 12 o’clock yesterday, was extinguished without difficulty by the city brigade. A wall was slightly damaged. Friction in some of the machinery is believed to hav caused the outbreak. The building, which is owned by Mr. R- H. Abbott, is insured for £2,000 in the Ocean Office. Suburban Grass Fires. —The Mount Albert Fire Brigade r ceived four calls yesterday. Grass fires in Edendale Road, Turnbull Avenue, and on the Prince of Wales Esates were suppressed before any damage was done. The walls of the Jubilee Hall, Kingsland, were scorched when a fire broke out on a vacant seciton adjoining, but the brigade extinguished the flames before the fire obtained ? hold.
