MAORIS WILL HELP
FUNDS FOR UNEMPLOYED PRINCESS TE PUEA ASSISTING The Maori people, with characteristic generosity, are anxious to help the Auckland unemployed. This problem was discussed when members of the Te Aka.ra.na Maori Association, with traditional ceremony, welcomed the Princess Te Puea' Herangi, the distinguished Waikato chieftainess, to their meeting last night. Princess Te Puea at once offered the services of her poi dancers and concert troupe. A sub-committee, which is arranging the details of a large Maori demonstration in Auckland to raise funds for the city’s unemployed, gratefully accepted her offer. They will report back to the association after meeting the Town Clerk, Mr. Brigham. Replving to the welcome extended her by Mr. J. Rukutai. president, Mr. P. Smyth, secretary, and other members of the association, Princess Te Puea also expressed her keen satisfaction with the resolve to erect a model old-time Maori pa on Mount Eden.
