SIXTY YEARS MARRIED

MR. AND MRS. J. CRISP ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED The sixtieth anniversary of the wedding of two of New Zealand’s early settlers, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Crisp, of Station oßad, Avondale, occurs to-day. Mr. and Mrs. Crisp were married at Nelson on February 17, 1868, by the late Rev. John Crump. Mr. Crisp, who was born at Nelson, was engaged on small contracts for the construction of railways in the district for some years, after which he joined the Public Works Department. He was* then transferred to Wellington, where he was engaged in the laying of the Hutt-Featherston railway, later being appointed inspector of the railway wharf and Lambton Station yards at Wellington. In 1882 Mr. Crisp was transferred to Auckland as Inspector of Permanent Ways, which position he filled for ten years, before being shifted to Gore. Retiring on superannuation 20 years ago, Mr. Crisp took up his permanent residence in Avondale. Masonic activities have always interested Mr. Crisp, who has been associated with lodges in Auckland and Gore. a past grand steward of the Grand Lodge, New Zealand Constitution, and is a life member of both Lodge Manukau and Lodge Titirangi Mrs. Crisp was a daughter of the late Thomas Lines, of Hope, Nelson, who was also a very early settler in New Zealand. There are five sons and three daughters living, viz., Messrs. Arthur. , (Wanganui), William Crisp m, U |^, 0h r? ) - Ge ,°f ge Cri *P (Hastings); Richard Crisp (Avondale), and Ilarry The daughters are Mrs. W. Walsh.
