CARING FOR SPORTSMEN
ST. JOHN’S GOOD WORK ACTIVITIES OF YEAR During the past year 1,000 footballers, picnickers, jockeys, and sportsmen of other kinds have been treated by the Auckland division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. Forty of the brigadesmen did duty each week in the city during the last football season. This proof of the Brigade’s good work was given at the annual meeting of the Auckland division, held last night, by the secretary, Private J. W. Howes. The acting-superintendent, Mr. J. H. Potter, was in the chair. The financial side of activities was declared to be satisfactory by Private W. Lindsay. ' Mr. J. Schofield, corps superintendent, presented medals to Corporals K. Crawford, H. Chapman, and H. Turner, who recently won the Jones Shield in Auckland, and the Hessey Shield in Masterton. He congratulated the men on their double victory. The divisional surgeon, Dr. L. Watson, presented service stars to Sergeant E. Howes and Private W. Groom in “recognition of their years of service. Recent purchases made by the division were the brigade flag and the flag of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, which is to be posted at important points when officials are on duty.
