“UNFAIR DISMISSAL"

PROTEST AT TAKAPUNA CRITICISM IN COUNCIL At last evening’s meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council, strong criticism of the action of the Works Committee in dismissing an employee of 13 qars’ standing, was made by Mr. J. Davis. Mr. Davis considered that if the man should go. it would be a disgrace to the council. The Mayor, Mr. J. Williamson, objected to certain remarks made by the complainant, and ruled that unless they were withdrawn it would be necessary to ask Mr. Davis to leave the- meeting. Mr. J. E. Close, chairman of the Works Committee, also demanded the withdrawal of what he considered a most insulting remark. Mr. Davis consented to withdraw any remarks that were considered offensive, but asked that his objection to the works committee s action in dismissing the employee be recorded in the minutes.
