SENTENCES COMMUTED By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Tuesday. The Berlin correspondent of “The Times’ says the sentences of death passed on the “black army” murderers in March last have been commuted. In the case of Lieutenant Schulz, Sergeant-Major Klapproth, and Fiihrensenn, the sentence was reduced to penal servitude for life, and in the case of Muhlhofer for 15 years.— Times.

At a retrial in March lasst Lieutenant • Schulz, with two other officers and a sergant, were sentenced to death. The accused men were found guilty of organising murder commandoes on behalf of “the black army.” The verdict was accompanied by a recommendation to medey on the ground that the prisoners believed they were serving a good cause.
