FORBIDDEN SWEETS
LOLLIES AT SCHOOL PICNICS “GREAT HARM TO HEALTH” Lollie scrambles at school picnics and the benches loaded with dainties at the break-up are frowned on by the director of dental hygiene. “THE practice of distributing to children concentrated sugar in the form of sweets and highly-sweetened cakes at school breaking-ups, picnic parties, etc.,” was the subject of the director’s warning received by the Auckland Education Board to-day. The director asked the board to bring his advice under the notice of school committees ‘‘in order to prevent the great harm being done to the health of the children.” Mr. J. McPhail said: I can’t imagine a school picnic without lollies. There was no more discussion.
