NEW RAILWAY STATION

CABINET APPROVES PLANS START EXPECTED SOON Plans of the new railway station at Auckland have been approved by Cabinet, and tenders for the contract are to be let immediately. A month is allowed for tenderers to submit their prices, and after that a fortnight or thereabouts will be occupied in their consideration. This should mean that in the course of a couple of months the construction work on the new station will commence. The job is expected to occupy at least 18 months. It is impossible at present to even estimate the number of men that will be employed on the work, as this will rest largely in the hands of the contractor, and will depend upon the method of employment he adopts. It is expected, however, that sufficient men will be absorbed to materially assist the acute unemployment situation in this city\
